Prescot Cables v Bamber Bridge Programme

The second programme in a run of three in five days, this issue was prepared for a big game, pitting as it did fifth-placed Prescot Cables against fourth-placed Bamber Bridge with both chasing home advantage in the end-of-season play-offs for the last promotion place.

In an effort to keep the issue topical, I prepared a piece about how the introduction of play-offs has helped to revitalise non-league football by keeping divisions interesting. I also managed to squeeze in a reference to my 'other' club - Ashford Town (Middlesex) - who had turned up to their away game at Marlow only to find the home team AWOL!

The match itself saw Cables claim a dramatic 2-1 win by scoring in stoppage time, briefly giving Prescot the upper hand in the battle for fourth place.
